Spaghetti and Marshmallow towers

            The 5th graders had an engineering competition. Students were able to choose their own groups of three or four.  Each group used spaghetti and marshmallows to create structures.     Some groups did some planning before building while others just started building.                                                                                 The result was to see which team could build the tallest tower that could stand on its own. Some problems that occurred.  The marshmallows for mushy after long periods of manipulation.

Here are some of the results.

        As you can see, many different styles of building were utilized. A lot of learning took place for these young engineers. No one wanted the building to end. No surprise!
